1. Establish the centre point of the column by dropping a plumb line on the floor. Indicate the point with an "X" for proper shaft alignment.

2. Place cap and base on marked "X". Measure from the top of the cap and base to the roofline to get shaft measurement. 

3. Cut column shaft round for even load. 

4. Apply construction adhesive to the top and bottom of the column and then fasten the cap and base to the shaft of the column. Make sure to countersink and predrill holes. 

5. Place column in position. Shim column tight to secure. 

6. Countersink and predrill holes. Do this for top and bottom.

7. Fill holes with wood putty.

FINISHING TIPS

a) Apply one coat of exterior acrylic primer

b) After drying, lightly sand column for smoothness 

c) Apply two finish coats of acrylic paint with a light sanding in between coats. 

**Always follow manufacturers' specifications to ensure optimum drying time**
