Calculating Wainscoting Sizes

Calculating Wainscoting Panel Sizes

The beauty of our Elite Wainscoting systems is that the panels can be customized to any width on site. The panels are generously oversized in order to give maximum flexibility in choosing panel width. This allows you to create a look that is completely your own if you desire.

We have created an excel file that will help you calculate panel sizing for both our Wall Paneled and X Paneled Wainscoting systems. It contains 2 sheets, one for each different style of wainscoting.

Below is an example of how to fill the sheet out and the kind of information it provides. Please ensure that you have a FULL understanding of the process BEFORE you cut any of the panels. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We also welcome any recommendations or comments about the process.

Be advised that there is no set panel width. In some cases, you will have to decide between using 4 panels that are 12" wide or 2 panels that are 24" wide. We find that panels that are 18" to 20" tend to be an aesthetically pleasing proportion. Also, all the panels on the walls should be similar but not necessarily equal in width.

FYI If you have a short wall beside a doorway that is less than 8", you do not need a panel at all. You can fill the space with any 1/2" thick MDF board or stile.
